New Struan Team Shortlisted for Prestigious School Food Awards
Alloa-based New Struan School’s food service team, Head Cook Lorraine Dalgleish and Kitchen Assistant Sanita Lieciniece, have been shortlisted for the Scottish School Food Awards in the category of Food Service Team of the Year.
The awards ceremony takes place at a black-tie event on Thursday 27th October at Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh, and will see the team compete against other shortlisted nominees from Edinburgh Academy, St Leonard’s (Edinburgh) and Barrhead Academy.
New Struan has a number of pupils who have specific requirements relating to dietary and sensory needs, which requires the team to create bespoke menus for individual pupils, alongside the three-week rolling menu.
Commenting on the nomination Lorraine Dalgleish said:
“We are so excited to be shortlisted for this award, especially because we had no idea we had been nominated! I take great pride in my job, and have worked at New Struan School for thirteen years now.
“We all work together to ensure the young people are supported in every way needed. Our bespoke approach helps to make the children feel special by having their own menus, and encourages them to come to the dining hall and servery. This can be a big achievement for some of our pupils, but when you see them happy it makes it all worthwhile.”
Sanita Lieciniece added:
“I was so surprised to learn of our nomination, and just to be shortlisted is a great achievement. Whether we win or not, the real prize is getting the opportunity to serve these wonderful children every day.”
