Artist of the Month

Art Opportunities is a service in Alloa, Clackmannanshire, which offers a specially designed creative environment for individuals to develop natural art and design skills.

Here, our supported people can express themselves through a variety of art mediums including glass, textile, paint and craft work. Individuals who access the service host art exhibitions and sell their hand crafted products to the public.

Each month, we'd like to showcase the amazing work of the individuals we support. If you see anything you would like to buy, please contact our team at Art Opportunities on 01259 723016 or via email to art.opportunities@scottishautism.org and quote the reference code of the item. All of the money raised goes to providing more materials for those we support to develop their creative skills further.

Christopher Marley

September's focused artist is Christopher who loves working with watercolours and bright felt tip pens.

Christopher enjoys all aspects of art and has dabbled in various mediums, including textiles, painting, fused glass and screen printing, but his preferred medium is felt tip pens and water colors. Christopher says, “they are easy to clean up.”

Christopher was a late talker and was encouraged to use art to express himself from a young age.

Christopher finds inspiration from magazines and TV for his art work. He enjoys filling full sketch books, front to back, with his colorful drawings. Christopher’s drawings bleed through the paper to the next page and he then likes, as he explains to “do dot to dot” before filling the random shapes with bright colors.

Christopher attends Art Opportunities serval days a week where staff help to develop his art work into prints, mugs, keyrings, coasters and more.

Christopher's artwork can be made into prints, mugs, keyrings, coasters, small canvas bags, canvas children's aprons.

Rachel Hook

August's focused artist is Rachel who is a very talented artist.

Rachel loves to embroider with every colour of the rainbow. Much of Rachel’s art work has a similar feel of fun and vibrancy.

She also loves to work with felt tip pens, creating unique and colorful pictures, and can find inspiration from almost anything around her.

Rachel was encouraged to express herself through her creativity from an early age with support staff from Scottish Autism. Rachel also attended Project Ability in Glasgow, where she contributed to several exhibitions and is a featured artist on their web page.

Rachel attends Art Opportunities several days a week and works with staff to develop her textile creations into products such as pillows, bags, aprons and peg bags. We have also started printing images of Rachel’s art work onto ceramic mugs, keyrings and coasters.

See some of Rachel's creative artworks below that are currently for sale.
